I do not think that there is any other quality so essential to success of any kind as the quality of perseverance. It overcomes almost everything, even nature." - John D. Rockefeller

Okay so now what? You just never quit and you will be successful? Yes, that is absolutely the truth, however you must understand what the full use of what perseverance entails.

Very few people attain any great amount of success and the excuses of mediocrity drown out the truth behind their results. Each and every one of us has the incredible ability to accomplish whatever worthwhile goal we set forth to do. So, if that is true, why is there not more successes? It is because everyone perseveres, but not everyone perseveres toward a worthy aim.

Perseverance starts with thoughts and continues with actions, but perseverance is never lost with action it always lost with thought. So you must understand your thinking to truly take advantage of this incredible power. You have thousands of thoughts in a day, maybe millions. Each and every one of those thoughts is an opportunity to persevere. For the purposes of the following exercise we will break down your thoughts into two categories: Action and Reaction.

Action Thoughts: These are the thoughts you put into your mind. These are the thoughts that you have chosen. These thoughts are where your power comes from.

Reaction Thoughts: These thoughts are habit thoughts and other peoples ideas. They are the ideas that you absorb and generate from stimulus in the outside world. These thoughts are just puppets controlled by what you have done with your Action Thoughts.

"Being Success" means using your Action Thoughts. You must know what you want to think about every moment of the day and persevere to keep those thoughts at the forefront of your mind. If you do this, one thing, you will be a force to be reckoned with among your peers and society. Most people spend their day in reaction mode. "Oh my gosh such and such happened now I must do this!" or they simply become distracted and waste their energy on frivolous activities. Your life could be just a collage of distractions, or you can persevere and make your life a demonstration of accomplishment.

The following is an incredible exercise to do. If you have not ever worked in the field of mental discipline before, this will change your outlook on life and give you just a taste of the power you have to create your world with perseverance!

Step 1: Get a note card and a pen.

Step 2: Write down on that note card a paragraph, in your own words, that says something similar to this:

"I have great power in my thoughts, I will choose my thoughts from now on. I will only think of things that bring me joy. I will only think of myself as the creator I am. I am persistent and I accomplish incredible things. I will use my life wisely and I will create my dreams by controlling my thoughts which are the parents of my actions. I will think only of the that which I intend to be. I see myself now, I am successful in everything I do, because I persist and I am relentless with my thoughts and deeds. I imagine myself at the finish line, the winner. I see my goals before me as if they are already accomplished. It is amazing what I can do. Everyday I grow happier and happier. I replace every thought that bothers me with one that brings me peace. I now know the secret to my joy and success and I only think of that which I desire. I am in control of my mind and I am happy!"

Step 3: Read your card, when you wake up, in the middle of the day and just before you go to sleep. Do this for one month. You must persist and really see yourself doing as the card says. One month is all it will take and you will begin to see how much power you have within you.
